Developing observational skills and using fieldwork are both underestimated strategies in teaching languages, especially in building confidence in using the language. Using these requires the focus being on the student´s own experiences or research rather than pages presented to them from a book or a worksheet and using the resources outside the classroom as much as within. This talk shows ways in which this can be achieved.

Karla Mikešová (Czech Coordinator for SOL Sharing One Language). I have been working as a coordinator for the Czech Republic since 2011. I support teachers who bring students to SOL. I help with course organisation, admin work, travel arrangements and money transfer. I regularly come to SOL with a group of 40 students from Brno, Gymnázium Matyáše Lercha where I also work as a teacher of English.
