Nowadays, students are more connected to the English World than ever before. Online landscape is predominantly in the English language which has its positives and its negatives. How do we as English teachers tackle the issues that are seen on social media platforms, such as the rise of controversial figures, like Andrew Tate, or making the LGBTQ+ students in your classroom feel safe. And, most importantly, is there a way to build bridges between students of opposing worldviews?
This is a discussion based workshop, where we ourselves will build a space to discuss what new trends we have observed. We'll talk about our own successes and failures, our own fears and triumphs. During the session Victoria will be assisted by Pavlína Šefčíková

Victoria is an English teacher who has been teaching EFL in the Czech Republic for 8 years, and studied Special Education and English education at Masaryk University. She currently works as an English teacher at Gymnázium Židlochovice. Victoria is passionate about creating safe spaces for students to learn. She has succeeded in doing this through integrating drama into the EFL classroom, as well as facilitating discussions between students to build relationships and empathy, which in turn establishes an enviroment ripe for learning.
